Drinking water to be served in pitchers or containers. Avoid use of bottled drinks.
Implement a food-waste recycling programme to convert waste materials into biomass.

Another Green Partnership

Suntec Singapore takes its green initiatives a step further with a new programme to recycle its waste vegetable oil into biodiesel.

For this, Asia's leading venue will partner Alpha Biodiesel, a Singapore-based company that provides innovative solutions to give urban waste a new lease on life as a sustainable form of energy.

Suntec Singapore operates one of the country's largest commercial kitchens. Its massive kitchen, which comprises seven seperate kitchens and spans almost 3,000 square metres, is capable of preparing up to 20,000 meals at any one time. The partnership calls for the recycling of at least 2,100 gallons of cooking oil annually.

Said CEO Pleter Idenburg, "We are pleased to be involved in making a difference by recycling our used cooking oil into biodiesel, an environmentally friendly alternative to petroleum diesel."

Biodiesel is a renewable fuel that is non-toxic and, when burned, produces no sulfur emissions, less carbon monoxide and fewer particulates and hydrocarbons compared to traditional petroleum diesel.

Suntec Singapore, Asia's leading convention and exhibition centre, is a strong advocate for the environment and engages in water and energy conservation as well as recycling efforts.

Green Revolution

At Suntec Singapore, caring for the environment was already a consideration at the heart of the management of the convention centre, even before it was built. The convention centre's most distinguished architectural feature, its iconic roof, boldly expressed in metal and glass pyramids, suspended from a steel space frame in Teflon sails, is actually an irrigation system that collects rainwater.

Intergrated into the design of the building - its uniquely-designed roof - one that makes Suntec Singapore stand out in Singapore skyline - collects rain water that irrigates part of the trees that are planted in the Suntec City area.

Approximately 38,726,553 litres of rainwater is collected annually, that's about the volume of water required to fill 14 Olympic size swimming pools!
